To pursue the distinct texture and beautiful fading of true vintage denim, we analyzed the yarn structure itself before weaving the fabric.
The yarn used is spun by Ayabe Spinning Co., Ltd. (established in 1948) in Ayabe City, Kyoto, using a spinning machine developed in the 1970s as Japan’s very first machine dedicated to spinning denim yarn. To eliminate thread breakage during weaving back then, it was produced from the “Jumbo Spinning Machine,” which is capable of winding more than five times the volume of a standard spinning bobbin.
Even today, after more than 50 years, this machine remains in active operation. It is capable of weaving natural, uneven yarns that are nearly impossible to replicate with modern, high-tech spinning machines.
